Hard Freeze begins with former-P.I. Joe Kurtz visiting Ted's Hot Dogs for "two dogs with everything except hot sauce, an order of onion rings, and a black coffee[.]"
Ten paragraphs later, Kurtz ponders the precarious situation in which the author has placed him while he "ate his second dog and sipped his Coke."
I believe this occurred just before he shed his clothes, filled his pockets with biscuits, and went out to face the Three Stooges.
