Since no one else has greeted the newcomers yet, I'll do so:

Hi there Starbuck, Pavel, Portal, and redshift1! Welcome to the fray.

Hi all !
What an amazing place : a forum with Dan speaking to us ! In fact, since I've read Hyperion, I always thought mister Simmons was a sort of god (I'm apparently not alone ^^) A dream come true !

Well, a young and so inexperimented frenchy writer is in the place :p

(excuse me for grammatical mistakes and stuff, my english needs quick improvements !)

Hi Julianos,

Bienvenue! No need to apologize for your grammar. Your English is much better than my French.

However , I'll do my best to not hurt your eyes :p

(yep, Serge Lehman payed homage to Aranofsky and Handel with this six-word sentence !)

Bienvenue Julianos! Ils sont plutôt patients avec les Frenchies ici.

Tu n’as qu’à les mettre dans ta poche en causant de vin, de haute gastronomie et de voitures sport au début... \:\)

Un francophone ! Joie, joie !
Merci des conseils, I will do that :p (hello there ! Who wants to get the most tasty bourgogne on earth ?*plop* (well, french wine bottle usuallay doesn't make "plop", it's more like "Plowwwpf, or "poup", and sometimes"santé", nevertheless "plop" is of course more significant )

Dan Simmons comments:

Yes, a hearty welcome to our newcomers here.

And to Julianos, to add to the joie, joie!, a special Willkommen! (See, we gods can speak European!)

Alas, though, the "god" thing only lasts until our new acoly . . . er . . . visitors discover the Hot Button Issues forum and their host's predilections and provocations.

But welcome anyway. Just remember to duck and cover! (old 1950's Cold War joke.) (never mind)

Yeah, it's all sunshine and smiley faces up here in the penthouse, but if you wander down to the basement, prepare to be beaten senseless! ;\)

Just want to say hello and briefly introduce myself. I'm McQ, a new fan of Dan's work. At least, of the first novel of his that I've ever read: The Terror.

I enjoy reading, photography, movies, music, and sports. Also any of my four sons' activities.

I'll admit up front that until I read The Terror, I had never even heard of Dan. Never heard of Hyperion or any other of his works. Go ahead - shoot me now! I have much catching up to do. He is an amazing writer. I have not read a book as good as Terror in decades, and I read a lot. It is now in my list of top three books of all time.

Enough for now. I look forward to this forum and to more of Dan's writing.

Welcome aboard, man. Now go out and buy the other seventy-seven books Dan has written. No excuses--they're all great.
